Well, out of more than 30,000 kids who auditioned, Warner Bros. has found its Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger actors to star in the upcoming Harry Potter series on HBO!
According to a report from Metro, Warner Bros. has cast its three leads for the Harry Potter TV series, led by Francesca Gardiner, but there's a catch. It's still a secret who those actors are.
Metro is reporting that the three leads are all from Britain, which has been a topic of conversation about casting in the Harry Potter franchise for a long time. The three stars are also 11 years old, which is, of course, the age Harry, Ron, and Hermione receive their letters for Hogwarts and the age the characters begin their first year at the School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
A few weeks ago, Channing Dungey, Warner Bros. TV CEO, wasn't ready to reveal to Deadline who is playing Harry, Ron, and Hermione in the series, and as it turns out, Warner Bros. still isn't ready to reveal the actors' identities yet. We already know some of the major stars playing some of the older characters, of course, including Nick Frost as Hagrid, Jon Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch, and Luke Thallon as Professor Quirrell.
We should learn who is going to be playing Harry, Ron, and Hermione in the series relatively soon, of course. Secrets are hard to keep in the entertainment industry. Production on the Harry Potter series is reportedly starting within the next few months during the summer of 2025.
In addition to Harry, Ron, and Hermione, there are a lot of other roles that need to be cast, too. We have to assume that we're getting closer to hearing the rest of those important roles in the first season of the series, which will be based on Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling. We'll let you know who is going to be playing those characters, as well as Harry, Ron, and Hermione, when we find out.
Harry Potter fans better be used to getting patient because even when we find out who is playing these characters, which should be soon. It's going to be a long time until the series actually hits HBO Max. As things stand, HBO is eyeing a late 2026 or early 2027 premiere date.
Stay tuned for more news about the Harry Potter TV series cast!
