The cast and crew of the newHarry Potterseries are about to get their letters inviting them to Hogwarts! Thanks to a new update from the Warner Bros TV CEO, production on the newHarry PotterTV series is starting very soon.
According to aDeadline interviewwith Channing Dungey, we learned that theHarry Pottershow is set to start filming in Leavesden in the summer of 2025. We're still waiting to learn the official start date, but I'm sure it's going to be sooner rather than later, especially with how many casting decisions have been (and haven't been announced) so far.
Dungey was asked about the start of production and the release timeline for the new show. Here's what Dungey told Deadline:
"Still on track for summer start of production. The rest we’ll know more as we get rolling."
Unfortunately, just because production is starting soon on the first season of theHarry Potterseries, it doesn't mean that fans will be able to watch the show anytime soon.
The Harry Potter show will be released in 2026 or 2027
We've known for a while that HBO and Warner Bros.were planning a late 2026 or early 2027 releasefor a long time. It seems like that timeline will still be the plan moving forward, although Dungey didn't commit to that during the interview with Deadline.
Of course, there are a lot of moving parts with a show like this, and it's important to remember that we still don't even know how many episodes will be in the first season. I have a feeling that it's likely going to be 8-10 episodes in each season, but some of theHarry Potterbooks definitely make sense as a longer season. It's going to be really interesting to see how Francesca Gardiner and Mark Mylod are able to navigate this story.
I have to imagine, looking at production schedules for similar shows, that production on the first season will take at least 6-8 months on the first season with more time allotted for post-production and visual effects. It's a lot of work, but if they can move quickly, I don't see any reason why we couldn't see theHarry Potterseries by the end of 2026. It's just a matter of what HBO wants to do. There are a lot of other big HBO shows coming around that time, too, so we'll just have to wait and see what happens.
Westill don't know who will be playing Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger, but there have beensome confirmationsrecently.
We'll share more news about the new Harry Potter series, but it's very good news that production is going to be starting soon!
