The casting for the new HBO Harry Potter series is in full swing. The first set of six adult characters has been announced, giving fans a new Albus Dumbledore, Severus Snape, and even Argus Filch. With over 32,000 children seen for the Golden Trio, fans should expect a casting announcement for Harry, Ron, and Hermione to come soon, especially if a recent report from Metro that the roles have been cast is to be believed.
And while there are no confirmed members of the original cast returning (yet), Daniel Radcliffe has thoughts about who he could play in the new show. In a recent interview published on TikTok by The Movie Dweeb, the original Harry Potter admitted that he would be up for playing a moving portrait or “a fun role that’s not too many days.”
There are a multitude of portraits in the Hogwarts castle, so it presents a fun opportunity and a blink-and-you-miss-it Easter egg. It might even be fun to see him as Sir Cadogan, a portrait who is always ready to go on a quest.
His laughs aside, Radcliffe did mention an important adult in Harry Potter’s life he wouldn’t mind taking on.
“I always thought, you know, one of the other great characters in the series is, like, Sirius Black, obviously that’s super cool.”
As Harry Potter’s godfather and lone parental figure of the series, it feels only right that if Radcliffe were to return in any capacity, it would be as Sirius Black, much like the rumor of Tom Felton, who famously was Draco Malfoy in the original eight movies, coming back to play Lucius Malfoy.
However, the actor is quick to say that while it would be fun to portray the Animagus, it won’t be happening.
“I can tell you there is no world in which I will actually be playing that character,” he clarifies.
Radcliffe isn't the only original cast member to speak on the series recently. Bonnie Wright, the original Ginny Weasley, shared her advice for the next group of witches and wizards, though she hasn't said what role she'd be interested in playing in the Harry Potter series.
With the series set to go into production this summer, it's only a matter of time before the new Harry, Ron, and Hermione are announced, in addition to other key cast members. We'll continue to share news as it comes out, crossing our fingers we know the new Golden Trio sooner rather than later.
