There's a new Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger in town. With six members of the adult cast for the forthcoming HBO Harry Potter series confirmed, it was only a matter of time before the new Golden Trio was announced. Rumors had been circling the last several weeks that the characters had been cast, but there was no confirmation from HBO until May 27.
Dominic McLaughlin is Harry Potter, taking over the role originally played by Daniel Radcliffe in the film adaptations. He's a fresh face, with only one other project on his resume other than Harry Potter, and it isn't out yet either. McLaughlin is set to star alongside Golda Rosheuvel of Bridgerton fame and Nick Frost, the actor confirmed to play Rubeus Hagrid in the new HBO series, in the film Glow. It is due to be released later this year.

Alastair Stout is the youngest Weasley son, Ron. Based on the CV provided on his management's website, the young actor also has one other credit to his name so far: a commercial for the potato brand Albert Bartlett. Harry Potter marks his first major project.
Hermione Granger will be portrayed by Arabella Stanton. She got her start on stage, appearing as Matilda in the West End's production of Matilda: The Musical from 2023 to 2024.
The entirety of the Golden Trio is fresh faces found among over 32,000 auditionees. Showrunner Francesca Gardiner and executive producer Mark Mylod said in a statement that "it’s been a real pleasure to discover the plethora of young talent out there."
"After an extraordinary search led by casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann, we are delighted to announce we have found our Harry, Hermione, and Ron," the statement continued. "The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen. We would like to thank all the tens of thousands of children who auditioned."
These three young actors join seasoned stars to round out the Harry Potter cast. This includes John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Papa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell, Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch, and, as previously mentioned, Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid.
With much of the main cast now confirmed, the series is gearing up for production to begin this summer. While it will be a bit of a wait to see McLaughlin, Stout, and Stanton as the young Hogwarts students, as the series doesn't premiere until 2026 or 2027, we will continue to keep you updated with the latest information on HBO's Harry Potter series.
