Warner Bros. and HBO have confirmed the actors playing some of the biggest characters in the new Harry Potter show, including Jon Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, and Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall. We're still waiting to find out who will be playing the iconic villain, Voldemort, in the series.

During a recent Deadline interview with Warner Bros. TV CEO Channing Dungey, it was revealed that there are still a couple of different actors being considered to play Voldemort in the new Harry Potter TV series. So far, no actors have reportedly been in official talks to play Voldemort yet, but we have to imagine that will be happening shortly.

Here's what Dungey told Deadline:

"You’re missing it in your deck, because we are still weighing a couple of different options there, so we’re not quite ready there yet. That’s an important role to get right."

Cillian Murphy has been the one name thrown around from those not associated with the show, but as of right now, Murphy's involvement has just been rumored. Deadline asked Dungey about Murphy, and she said "no comment" three times. So, that's that.

There were other rumors that Murphy could have played Professor Quirrell, but that role has been filled by Luke Thallon. Ralph Fiennes starred as Voldemort in the Harry Potter movies.

Honestly, it might be a while until we learn who is going to play Voldemort in the Harry Potter TV series for a few reasons. Mainly, Voldemort, aside from that flashback scene of Voldemort killing Harry's parents, we really don't meet Voldemort in this story for a long time. Yes, we see his face in the back of Quirrell's head in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. Then, we see a younger version of Voldemort in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. As far as I know, Voldemort has virtually no role in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, which is why it's probably the best book and movie of the franchise. Until his return at the end of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Voldemort is not really necessary to be on screen.

I do think that we'll learn who is playing Voldemort before the first season wraps filming, but I don't think we'll meet that actor until, probably, the season 3 finale or season 4 of the TV series. That's not going to be until, like, 2030. Sorry to burst all the Death Eaters' bubbles, but it's going to be a while until we meet Voldie.

Right now, it's probably better that the show focus on nailing the Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger castings. We still haven't learned who is playing those characters yet. Filming on the series is scheduled to begin this summer, so we're going to find out soon-ish, though!

We'll share more news about the Voldemort casting and the Harry Potter series when we find out. Stay tuned!
