Just a short time after announcing who would be playing Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley in the new Harry Potter series, the cast and crew officially started filming but in a very unexpected place.
While most of the series will be filmed at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, the Harry Potter series started filming in a remote location in France, according to a report from The Mirror. Production reportedly is filming on Île de Sein, a small island off the French Coast.
And, if the reports are to be believed, this is the location where they will film a pivotal scene in the Harry Potter series. Remember when Uncle Vernon is trying to outrun all of the letters from Hogwarts and he finds the little shack off the coast of Cornwall for the Dursleys, plus Harry, to hole up for the night before Harry's 11th birthday? Well, that's where they will be filming this scene!
It's iconic, honestly. This is the scene where Harry meets Rubeus Hagrid for the first time. It's also the scene where he finds out that his parents didn't die in a car crash. Most importantly, Harry learns that he is a wizard and that he's going to wizard school in a few weeks.
It's unclear if cameras are actually rolling in France with Nick Frost, who is playing Hagrid, Dominic McLaughlin, who is playing Harry, and the Dursley family. The Dursley cast hasn't been announced yet, but there have been reports that Phoebe Waller-Bridge will be playing Aunt Petunia in the series, but that has not been confirmed yet.
We're used to the Harry Potter movies being filmed in and around the United Kingdom, so it's definitely sure to shock fans that the first scene to be filmed for the Harry Potter series is actually in France. Hey, that's how it goes sometimes in show business. If they find the perfect place for a scene, why not go for it, especially with the budget that the Harry Potter series has? Reports suggest that the overall budget is nearly $100 million per episode. It'd be a shame if the show didn't look exactly how they wanted with a budget like that.
We'll share more news about the Harry Potter series when we find out! Production should be starting up in the UK very soon if it hasn't already. With production starting, there are a lot of roles in the Harry Potter cast that have yet to be announced. That should change soon, too!
