The Harry Potter series just added nine more cast members! We'd been waiting for another casting drop since we found out who would be playing Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter series. That finally happened when Warner Bros. TV revealed the actors who will be playing Draco Malfoy, Aunt Petunia, Uncle Vernon, and other important characters in the HBO series.
According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, Bel Powley and Daniel Rigby will star as Petunia and Vernon Dursley, the aunt and uncle of Harry Potter in the series. Of course, the book series begins, largely, with Harry living with his aunt and uncle. Dudley Dursley has not been announced yet.
We also learned who will be playing Draco Malfoy and his father, Lucius. Lox Pratt takes over the role that Tom Felton played for all eight Harry Potter movies as Harry's nemesis, Draco. Johnny Flynn, who starred in the incredible Netflix comedy series Lovesick, will play Lucius. It's a deep cut reference for my Netflix fans out there, but he's really good.
Warner Bros. TV also revealed three students who will be joining Pratt's Draco at Hogwarts. Sienna Moosah will be playing Lavender Brown, along with Leo Earley, who will play Seamus Finnigan, and Alessia Leoni, who will be playing Parvati Patil. For those keeping track at home, we have six Gryffindors cast so far, including Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton, and Alastair Stour, who will star as Harry, Hermione, and Ron, respectively. Pratt is the only Slytherin revealed so far, but that will change very soon.
As for the remaining adult characters to be cast in this latest roundup, Katherine Parkinson will be playing Molly Weasley, the mother of Ron, Ginny, Fred, George, Percy, Bill, and Charlie. Bertie Carvel, who recently starred as Tony Blair in Netflix's The Crown, will be playing Cornelius Fudge, the Minister of Magic.
With the latest casting announcement, we're up to, I believe, 18 cast members in the Harry Potter series, and we're still counting on even more being announced soon. The latest nine cast members joining Nick Frost (Hagrid), Jon Lithgow (Albus Dumbledore), Paapa Essiedu (Severus Snape), Janet McTeer (Minerva McGonagall), Paul Whitehouse (Argus Filch), and Luke Thallon (Professor Quirrell).
There are about 30-40 characters with significant roles early in the Harry Potter series, so we should be learning more about the rest of the cast soon. Looking at the full list, we have a lot of Weasleys left to be revealed. We're also waiting on Dudley and Harry's classmates at Hogwarts, including those on his Quidditch team.
Overall, though, most of the main roles have been filled. That's an exciting development for fans of the series! We still have a long time to wait until the series hits HBO in late 2026 or early 2027. Stay tuned for more news about the Harry Potter series!
