4 Harry Potter characters who deserve more time in the Harry Potter TV series

There were a few Harry Potter characters that deserved way more time on screen in the Harry Potter movies.

With the Harry Potter TV series coming to HBO and MAX in 2026, we're hoping that we get to see more of a few Harry Potter characters in the show than we did in all eight Harry Potter movies.

Of course, we knew heading into the Harry Potter movies, they wouldn't be able to treat each character with the depth we read about in the books. We also knew that not all the characters would get the time on screen that they deserve.

We picked four Harry Potter characters that need much more time and development in the Harry Potter TV series than they got in the eight movies.

Let's get the list started with Charlie Weasley!

Charlie Weasley

It's okay if you forgot about the other Weasley brother! Most people do! He was basically absent from the Harry Potter movies, despite his family having more stake in seeing the Order of the Phoenix during the Second Wizarding War. He even shows up in the books for the Battle of Hogwarts!

I have a soft spot for Fred and George, but Charlie is probably the third-best of the Weasley brothers. He trains dragons in Romania, so he's mentioned more often than we actually get him interacting with his family. His friends do make an appearance in the book, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, to take Norbert/Norberta the Norwegian Ridgeback, Hagrid's dragon, away from the school.

In Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Charlie attends the Quidditch World Cup with Harry and the Weasleys. Then, he pops up at Hogwarts again for the Tri-Wizard Tournament.

It'd be great to see more of Charlie in the Harry Potter TV series!

Remus Lupin

Remus Lupin, played by David Thewlis, is one of the important role models in Harry's life. We see him help Harry through the events of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Then, Remus is basically like an uncle to him through the rest of the series, especially after Sirius dies in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

Later, Remus has a very important to play in the Order of the Phoenix, his relationship with Tonks, and trying to help Harry, Ron, and Hermione with the task Dumbledore laid out for them. We don't see any of that, really, in the movies, and it's a must for the TV series. My guy is stressed out in this story, and I think fans need to see that to fully understand his sacrifice. They need to see the fight with Harry because it's so important to what Harry does later.

Tom Riddle / Lord Voldemort

In the Harry Potter movies, we get a heavy dose of Lord Voldemort at times, but we don't get a particularly good sense of who Tom was as a student at Hogwarts, what he did when he left Hogwarts, and how he became Lord Voldemort. It's only explained to us via Tom Riddle's diary and dialogue until Harry and Dumbledore take a few trips down memory lane. We obviously saw a little bit of that in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, but we didn't see enough.

Harry and Dumbledore take several lessons to explore memories of those connected to Tom Riddle. That's how Dumbledore solved the great mystery of how to defeat Voldemort. We need to see all of those memories, including those connected to Tom's childhood and even before he was born with Tom's mother, Merope Gaunt. It's such an important part of the story that was just glazed over for time reasons.

Ginny Weasley

This one is so easy! Ginny Weasley, played by Bonnie Wright in the movies, is one of the most criminally underutilized characters in all eight Harry Potter movies. Ginny is there at the beginning of Harry's story, and she's there at the end. In between, Ginny weaves in and out of Harry's story, but I hated how this character was reduced to a mere supporting role.

In the books, Ginny is a much more well-rounded character with thoughts of her own, personality, hopes, dreams, and more. She isn't just there to aid Harry's quest and serve his ambition. Ginny challenges Harry in a way that no other character, aside from maybe Ron and Hermione, can. She also understands Harry in a way that the others don't, too.

And, again, that's just how they can show her in regard to Harry's character. I hope that she has storylines of her own in the TV series because there are many that do not involve Harry in the books, including her time on the Quidditch team, her relationship with Dean Thomas, her relationship with the other Weasleys, and so much more.

That's the list of character we want to see more of in the Harry Potter TV series! We'll share more information about the TV series as we find out.
