The Harry Potter movies will be moving streaming services (again) in September 2024
As summer comes to an end in less than a month, it's time to look forward to the spooky season of the year, which brings us cooler temperatures, Halloween, and fantastical-horror vibes. Soon the days of summer blockbusters will be behind us and we'll be ushering in new horror movies to celebrate the fall. Along with new titles, we'll be rewatching some of the most classic Halloween movies, including Disney Channel favorites. Of course, Harry Potter being a Halloween or Christmas movie series is always up for debate, but do we really need much convincing to do a Wizarding World marathon?
If your answer, like ours, is "no," then you'll be happy to learn that the Harry Potter movies are moving streaming services in September. If there are three certain things in life, they would be death, taxes, and the Harry Potter movies moving from Peacock to Max and vice versa. That's because NBCUniversal's platform Peacock and Warner Bros.' service Max share the rights to the movies, which has been the case since 2020. Though the movies were produced by Warner Bros., NBCUniversal holds the broadcast rights, which is why you'll often see Harry Potter playing on channels like Syfy.
Marathon the Harry Potter movies on Max this weekend
If you subscribe to Max instead of Peacock (or just prefer the Max interface as I do), then we come bearing good news. All eight Harry Potter movies will be available to stream on Max starting on Sunday, Sept. 1! Peacock has included the films in their "Leaving Peacock Soon" section, so we can assume they will be leaving the platform on Aug. 31.
You might not be able to start your Harry Potter marathon on Max on Friday or Saturday night, but you can bet on a Sunday scaries watch to feel all the feels and get the comfort you need. Along with the Harry Potter movies, Max will also be adding a long list of exciting titles in September. DC's Batman spinoff The Penguin premieres Sept. 19, while A24 movies Civil War and I Saw the TV Glow are being added on Sept. 13 and Sept. 20, respectively.
Looking for other age-appropriate movies like Harry Potter to enjoy on Max? We recommend the Fantastic Beasts movies, the Lord of the Rings series, Wonka, and Beetlejuice, all available on HBO's streaming service right now.
The Harry Potter film series debuted in 2001 with the release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, directed by Chris Columbus. The movies were absolute box office smashes and the series is currently the fifth-highest-grossing movie franchise in the U.S. and Canada. Though each entry varied in critical response, the movie franchise as a whole is regarded as one of the best. It's no wonder fans continue to marathon all eight movies as they relive their favorite memories. Make sure you're subscribed to Max in time for their return on Sept. 1.
