It's no secret that fan favorite adaptations vie for supremacy in terms of box office sales and Robert Pattinson played roles in two major series. In 2008, he became the face of Edward Cullen, the marble angel love interest in Twilight and gained a following of devoted fans in those movies. Before then, we knew Pattinson as the dreamy and accomplished Hogwarts champion Cedric Diggory. Now, one of Pattinson's Twilight co-stars is talking about his experience seeing his fictional rival in a different light.
What does Taylor Lautner think of Harry Potter?
Reporting for CBR.com, Monica Coman recalls the 2000s, when "there was no bigger competition than Harry Potter and Twilight...The fans, calling Twihards and Potterheads, respectively had embarked on a fierce mission to take the other down." Many fans have grown since the days of attacking those who love a different fandom and one actor is setting an excellent example.
We know that Cedric Diggory attended school while Defense Against the Dark Arts was being taught by a werewolf, but Robert Pattinson worked alongside an entirely different type of lycanthrope in Twilight. Taylor Lautner, who played his rival and eventual ally Jacob black, recently spoke on his podcast The Squeeze about his experience watching the entire Harry Potter franchise for the first time. Taylor and his wife Tay shared "their commitment and difficulty in always finding something that interests both of them before settling on big franchises" for movie night. While Taylor had seen some parts of the series, he hadn't completed the viewing experience.
"We sat down, and each night we watched a different movie...It was a lot of fun." Tay "mentioned she had seen them many years ago and knew what the story and characters were about." Taylor himself had great words of appreciation for the series, saying that after watching the films, he "could honestly say that [he] would do that once a year." Amusingly, he made no mention of his thoughts on Robert Pattinson's short-lived career as Hufflepuff Seeker and Triwizard Tournament participant Cedric Diggory.
Both Twilight and Harry Potter have planned reboots, with the Harry Potter series being turned into a television program on HBO's streaming services. It will be fun to see if Lautner's newfound enthusiasm for the Harry Potter series will lead him to watch the project when it comes in 2026. And we're curious to know if Pattinson is aware of his colleague's new interest in the second film he ever acted in.
