Evanna Lynch, who starred in the Harry Potter movies as Luna Lovegood, recently shared a moment where she became so enthralled with the world of Harry Potter that she actually forgot she was a part of the Harry Potter movies.
Lynch told the story to CNET in a recent interview promoting the new audiobook, From the Wizarding Archive which was released on Aug. 29 exclusively on Audible.
In the interview, Lynch was asked about why she continues to work on projects within the realm, and Lynch mentioned the comfort she feels working in this world.
"I don't watch the films as it's too emotional, but recently, Prisoner of Azkaban was on and my partner and I started passively watching it, and I had that strong feeling of, "I want to be part of that world," and then remembered, "Oh, I already am!" The fans have kept that world very alive in my life. I continue to try to find that sense of belonging in other communities, but none have proved quite so profound a match yet. "
That's so interesting! In the modern media landscape, there are many franchises, but I don't feel like there are many franchises that have withstood the test of time quite as Harry Potter has. The feeling Lynch mentions of the "sense of belonging" to the community seems quite accurate for many of those associated with the Harry Potter movies and, of course, the books that continue to reach new audiences.
Lynch appeared in the final four Harry Potter movies, starting with Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix in 2007. That was Lynch's first official film credit. Lynch's character, Luna Lovegood, has quite an important role in that film, as she helps Harry through one of his darkest times. She also starred in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Part 2.
Although the world of Harry Potter stayed the same in many ways, it definitely changed following Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. There's a different aesthetic in the final four movies that Lynch was a part of than the first four movies. It's much darker. The story is more mature. I can totally see Lynch getting lost in the story and forgetting about space and time. That's how good stories work!
