J.K. Rowling has been mired in controversy for years. Her polarizing opinions on social issues, especially transgender rights, have made her a cast-off by most of the Harry Potter fandom, despite her being the originator of the story through her book series. While she has been a bit removed from the franchise, the wizarding world itself has continued to tick.

Upcoming later this summer is one of the biggest projects in the franchise's history, the Harry Potter television series coming the HBO and Max. It has already been announced that the series is set to be the most expensive in history, and projections have it being one of the most successful as well. While J.K. Rowling is not directly a part of it, she has apparently been able to read the scripts.

According to her, fans have a lot to be excited about.

J.K. Rowling offers stamp of approval

Rowling may not be the most popular figure in the Harry Potter world anymore, but she is still the most influential. At the end of the day, the concept is her own, and she knows better than anyone what themes, feelings, and emotions her series was meant to convey. It appears that Rowling has not just read the scripts but worked closely with the team, and she has given her full approval.

Rowling took to X to share the experience she has had thus far with the series. While she will not receive any writing credits, she has read the scripts. “I read the first two episodes of the forthcoming HBO ‘Harry Potter’ series and they are SO, SO, SO GOOD!” She also referred to the writers as "extremely talented".

HBO has not ever hidden Rowling's intended involvement. In fact, since the beginning, the team has shared that she was heavily involved in the selection of both the showrunner and the director for the show. While publicly, her opinions have sparked backlash for her and the television series, according to the Network CEO, Casey Bloys, it has not affected hiring or casting.

“The decision to be in business with J.K. Rowling is not new for us. We’ve been in business for 25 years,” Bloys said via Variety. “We already have a show on HBO from her called ‘C.B. Strike’ that we do with the BBC. It’s pretty clear that those are her personal, political views. She’s entitled to them. ‘Harry Potter’ is not secretly being infused with anything. And if you want to debate her, you can go on Twitter.”

Paapa Essiedu, playing the role of Severus Snape, spoke out against the unfair treatment of transgender athletes, which Rowling responded to back in May while posting an article about the actor.

“I don’t have the power to sack an actor from the series and I wouldn’t exercise it if I did. I don’t believe in taking away people’s jobs or livelihoods because they hold legally protected beliefs that differ from mine," she said on X.

Regardless of the firestorm that Rowling causes in her real-world opinions, her stamp of approval for the television series bodes well for it, following the book series closely. Fans may not be thrilled with her as a person, but her writing is what started the entire pop culture sensation to become what it is today, and would not have been possible without her creative voice.
