Coming soon: Harry Potter: Wizards of Baking
By Kaki Olsen
November 2024 features a Harry Potter show that can be found streaming on HBOMAX. No, not that one. I am talking about Harry Potter: Wizards of Baking. This show should appeal not only to everyone who has envied the Hogwarts students whenever there's a feast, but fans of any food competition show.
"A sweet new chapter."
The Food Network may be the channel where you can find your fix with this series, but it is most definitely set among the trappings of the wizarding world. It is clear from the start that the bakers are exhilarated by the chance to tackle magical subjects--they're on this show, after all--but there is genuine excitement over the setting as well.
In "One-on-One with the Weasley Twins, James and Oliver Phelps" the Food Network YouTube account let the hosts talk about what to expect. In spite of Gred and Forge (or Fred and George) taking each other to task for giving away too many spoilers in the interview, they promise one specific factor: "All of these bakers are huge fans of the movies, so it's great that they know all the details."
That much is obvious. In the trailer, we see an incredibly detailed basilisk fang from one creator and a presumably delectable Mirror of Erised from another. There is no shortage of creativity and clear appreciation for the books and movies in the Wizarding World.
An added component of fun comes about with guests, James and Oliver greet Bonnie Wright with a jovial, "What's up, sis?" Warwick Davis comes on for fans of Griphook and Luna Lovegood herself, Evanna Lynch, makes an appearance. It is a thrill to see actors coming "home" to Hogwarts sets for this new program, even if the Weasley twins aren't ginger and Luna is sporting a dark hair color.
Look for all the excitement and the emotion as of November 14, 2024.
